Argentine referee Néstor Fabián Pitana, 42, will be in charge of directing the first match of the 2018 World Cup in Russia. He is the second ‘pampero’ whistle to repeat in a World Cup, together with Ángel Coerezza, who led in 1970 and 1978.
Pitana is an international whistle since 2010 and is one of the most important referees of Argentine football. In his resume he has Liga Argentina, Copa Sudamericana, Copa Libertadores, Copa América, Olympic Games, Confederations Cup and the 2014 World Cup of Brazil before participating in Russia 2018.
Néstor Pitana is not a whistle that takes the cards frequently or quickly, because in 342 games he has directly expelled only 45 players.
What makes him different as referee, is that he acted in theater and had an intervention as a film actor in the movie ” La Furia ” (1997) where he played a jailer. This film was starred by the international Argentine singer Diego Torres.
Pitana is also a physical education teacher at a school in Argentina. An activity that develops while not cited for a match in the League or international competition.
