About Asian handicap bets

We find this type of bet on bookmakers sites like Pinnacle, Bet365, or Bwin. The Asian handicap bet differs from the classic handicap bet in the sense that there are many more possibilities. It can take into account quarters of goals (for football for example) or quarters of points (for basketball, etc.).

It can be in this form:

  • 0, +/- 0.25, +/- 0.5, +/- 0.75, +/- 1, etc.

Or in this form:

  • 0, +/- 1/4, +/- 1/2, +/- 3/4, +/- 1, etc.

It depends on the bookmaker.

In which case can it be used?

Imagine that you have just bet €100 on "A team wins by 2 goals or more" at odds of @ 2.00. If Team A wins by 1 goal difference only, there are several possible outcomes. In some cases, you will:

• be able to recover your bet in its entirety (ie €100)

• be able to recover half of your bet (ie €50)

• be able to recover half of your bet (ie €50) + to win on the other half (ie €50 * 2 = €100).

Unlike the classic handicap bets where you have lost your entire bets, you can lose less money, not lose at all, or even win through the Asian handicap bets. This type of bet is very useful to secure your forecasts even more and it is partly thanks to it that your bankroll will increase more quickly in the long term. The odds are necessarily a little lower than the classic handicap, but it is additional security not to be neglected. The different types of Asian Handicap bets. There are quite a number but we will only see the main ones.

Asian Handicap 0

The Asian Handicap 0 bet is similar to the Draw No Bet wager or "paid if draw". For example, if you play an Asian Handicap 0 on Team A's win and Team A makes a draw, your bet is refunded. The Asian 0 handicap allows you to insure your back and not to lose money in the event that a match ends in a draw.

Asian Handicap +/- 0.25 [0; 0.5]

It's with the Asian Handicap +/- 0.25 that the serious things begin. Take the example of football. Team A is favourite and leaves with 0.25 goals behind (AH -0.25). On the contrary, Team B is not the favourite. It started with 0.25 goals (AH +0.25).

1st case: You bet €100 on an Asian Handicap -0.25 for team A at odds of @ 1.50.

Here are the possible results:

• If Team A wins, your bet is right and you win €100 * 1.50 = €150

• If there is a draw, you lose half of your bet, ie €100/2 = €50

• If the team A loses, your bet is wrong and you lose your entire bet, that is €100.

2nd case: You bet €100 on an Asian Handicap +0.25 for Team B at the odds of @ 2.00.

Here are the possible results:

• If Team B wins, your bet is right and you win €100 * 2.00 = €200

• If there is a draw, you get half of your bet and you cash on the other half, €50 + €50 * 2.00 = €150

• If the team B loses, your bet is wrong and you lose your entire bet, or €100.

Asian Handicap +/- 0.5

The Asian Handicap -0.5 is exactly the same as if you bet on a victory of either team (1 or 2). For example, if you bet on an Asian Handicap -0.5 for Team A and it wins, your bet is good. Otherwise, your bet is wrong and you lose your bet. The Asian Handicap +0.5 is exactly the same as if you bet on a double chance bet for either team. If, for example, you bet on an Asian Handicap +0.5 for team A and it does not lose, your bet is correct. If Team A loses the match, your bet is not good and you lose your bet.

Asian Handicap +/- 0.75 [0.5; 1]

This time, Team A is still a favourite, but they start with 0.75 goals behind (AH -0.75). Team B is not a favourite of the game. It started with 0.75 goals (AH +0.75).

1st case: You bet €100 on an Asian Handicap -0.75 for Team A at the odds of @ 2.00.

Here are the possible results:

• If team A wins by 2 goals or more, your bet is right and you win €100 * 2.00 = 200

• If there is a draw, you get half of your bet and you cash on the other half, €50 + €50 * 2.00 = 150

• If the team A loses, your bet is wrong and you lose your entire bet, that is €100.

2nd case: You bet €100 on an Asian Handicap +0.75 for Team B at odds of @ 1.50.

Here are the possible results:

• If Team B wins, your bet is right and you win €100 * 1.50 = 150

• If there is a draw, you lose half of your bet, ie €100/2 = 50

• If the team B loses, your bet is wrong and you lose your entire bet, or €100.

Asian Handicap +/- 1

The Asian Handicap +/- 1 allows you to be refunded your stake in case your classic handicap bet does not pass 1 goal (football) or 1 point (basketball). For example, if you bet on an Asian Handicap -1 for Team A and it wins 2 goals or more, your bet is good. If Team A wins only 1 goal exactly, your bet is refunded. If it fails to win, your bet is incorrect and you lose your bet. On the contrary, if you bet on an Asian handicap +1 for Team A and it does not lose, your bet is right. If Team A loses exactly 1 goal, your bet is refunded. On the other hand, if Team A loses 2 goals or more, you lose your bet and therefore your stake. And many other Asian handicap bets ...

Other Asian Handicap bets+/- 1.25; +/- 1. 5; +/- 1.75; +/- 2, etc. -

This is exactly the same principle with 1 or more goals or points.

A tip to know about the Asian handicap bets

Sometimes you may find slightly different odds for an Asian handicap 0 and a Draw No Bet bet. And yet, these two types of bets mean exactly the same thing: your bet is refunded if the match ends in a draw. It also works for an Asian handicap bet +0.5 and a Double chance bet. It's the same thing. What bet to choose in these cases?
