Manchester United and Arsenal play out 1-1 Premier League draw at Old Trafford

Manchester United and Arsenal continued their disappointing start to the Premier League season on Monday night as the rival clubs played out a 1-1 draw at the Old Trafford in Manchester.

Scotland star Scott McTominay netted his first goal at Old Trafford for Manchester United after a dreadful opening 45 minutes.

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struck a controversial equaliser awarded by VAR in the 58th minute, bringing the scoreline to 1-1.

The assistant referee had initially raised his flag for offside, but replays showed that United’s defender Harry Maguire played the Gabonese striker onside, so Aubameyang’s eighth goal of the season was given in Arsenal’s favour.

Arsenal remain in the top four with 12 points, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men sit in 10th place after picking up 9 points from their first seven games.

The two combined sides now have as many points as Premier League leaders Liverpool.

What’s next?

Both teams look ahead to Europa League action on Thursday as Manchester United travel to AZ Alkmaar and Arsenal welcome Standard Liege at the Emirates Stadium.
