Spain defeat Germany to claim fifth U21 European Championship title

2019 Jul 1

Germany's Under-21s were unable to defend their European title as Spain were crowned European champions following a 2-1 victory.

Spain gained revenge on Germany at the Friuli Stadium in Udine for the 2017 final as La Rojita claimed their fifth U21 European Championship crown on Sunday night thanks to goals from Fabian Ruiz and Dani Olmo.

Napoli midfielder, Fabian Ruiz netted the game’s opening goal in the 7th minute with a 25-yard strike from Mikel Oyarzabal's pass, while Dinamo Zagreb's Dani Olmo scored the second goal in the 69th by dinking the ball over keeper Alexander Nubel who failed to hold Ruiz's drive.

This is La Roja’s fifth U21 title, taking Spain level with Italy as the competition's all-time leading title winners, in their record-breaking eighth final.
