Tottenham Hotspur were eliminated from the EFL Cup in the third round, losing 4-3 on penalties to League Two side Colchester United.
Last season's Champions League finalists suffered Carabao Cup humiliation on Tuesday as Tottenham were dumped out of the competition by Colchester United on penalties after a goalless 90 minutes in the third round.
Tenth in League Two, Colchester is 71 places below Tottenham in the English football pyramid.
Colchester, the lowest-ranked side left in the draw, took down Premier League side Crystal Palace on penalties in the second round last month, before giving the Lilywhites its most embarrassing loss under Pochettino.
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, who has yet to lift a trophy since taking over in 2014, praised Colchester United after his side’s surprising defeat to the League Two club in the Carabao Cup.
“Colchester made a fantastic game, it was difficult. We are so disappointed we could not score in 90 minutes. We wanted to go further but we are out.”
