Lionel Messi scores 50th free-kick in Barcelona’s 5-1 win over Real Valladolid

Barcelona thrashed Real Valladolid 5-1 to return to the top of La Liga with a seventh straight win in all competitions on Tuesday night. The Catalans have won five consecutive matches in the Spanish league.

Five-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi scored the 50th free-kick goal of his professional career for club and country. The 32-year-old Argentine talisman has now scored 44 free-kicks for Barcelona and 6 for Argentina at international level.

The Barcelona captain scored twice in each half and provided two assists for Arturo Vidal and Luis Suarez in the La Liga match against Real Valladolid as the Blaugrana extended its winning run to 7 games in all competitions.

Defender Clement Lenglet opened the scoring for the Catalan giants in the second minute of the game before the visitors equalised at the Camp Nou, Messi made a sensational assist for Chile international Arturo Vidal before netting a stunning free-kick to restore the hosts' lead. Messi scored again in the second half before setting up Uruguayan Luis Suarez in the 77th minute to score Barca’s fifth goal.

What’s next?

Barca face a trip to Levante in La Liga on Saturday, while Valladolid host Real Mallorca the next day. The reigning La Liga champions host Slavia Prague in the Champions League at Camp Nou on November 5th.
